Events may return in full by June 21st: New GOV Events Research programme confirmed to begin April!

Covid-19 lockdown restrictions update

So what are these new research pilot programmes and what does it mean for the return of events in the UK?

Well to start off if the pilots are successful, "up to 10,000 people will be allowed in stadiums for sporting events, but not before 17th May“ says PM.

The pilot events will start in April in England with the Prime Minister going on say "Over the spring the Government will run a scientific Events Research Programme,"
"This will include a series of pilots using enhanced testing approaches and other measures to run events with larger crowd sizes and reduced social distancing to evaluate the outcomes. The pilots will start in April.
"The Government will bring the findings from across different sectors and different settings to determine a consistent approach to lifting restrictions on these events. Depending on the outcome of this work, the Government hopes to be able to lift restrictions on these events and sectors as part of Step 4."

Covid-19 lockdown restrictions update:

  • Up to 10,000 fans could return to stadiums by mid-May

  • Leisure centres, gyms and swimming pools can open from 12 April.

  • After June 21, the government hopes to lift all restrictions on social contact, with large events and performances finally allowed in full.

On February 22nd Prime Minister Boris Johnson also announced his plan to lift coronavirus restrictions setting out a four-step roadmap the country will need to go through to get “back to normal” Pictured below.
